Top-notch baby tees for summer vibes
Snug and snipped tees were all the rage in the 70s and 80s thanks to those denim waistbands reaching for the stars, but nothing screams style like the 90s. Dubbed the French cut tee, it was designer Linda Meltzer who birthed the baby tee craze.
The stylist dug through vintage racks, hunting for kids' tees from the '70s. Obsessed with the shrunken, skin-tight look, Meltzer decided to craft her own unique pieces.
Established in '93, Meltzer’s Tease Tees evolved into the fan-favourite, still super popular Pretties. Spotted on celebs like Jennifer Aniston, Paris Hilton, Drew Barrymore, Elle McPherson, Naomi Campbell, Alicia Silverstone, Kate Moss, and more over the years, Meltzer’s brand solidified as the spot for trendy basics.
The 90s revival is still in full swing, and the 21st century is saying bye-bye to long tees! All the designers are swapping out their tees for shorter cuts. Modern shoppers are snipping away to get that perfect look with their jeans, embracing low-waisted styles.
Yet cropped is perhaps the wrong adjective to use when describing the fit of a true, OG baby tee. To stay true to the original intention behind the style, your baby tee shouldn’t sit above the midriff but rather graze the belly button area. Subtly feminine and flirtatious, the baby tee is a styling basic that every It-girl and boy needs in their wardrobe.
